
Pushkar
Pushkar a place which is located in Ajmer, Rajasthan (India). Pushkar is known for Brahma Mandir, Pushkar Lake or Annual Camel Fair. The town also famous for their religious or cultural importance, colourful markets and spiritual traditions.
Brahma Mandir –
It is one the famous temples dedicated to Lord Brahma. This temple was built in 14th century in an Rajasthani Style which has four faced idol of Brahma. The Temple is made of marble or stone slabs and it has a distinct red pinnacle (shikhara) and a hamsa bird motif. The Brahma Mandir situated near Pushkar Lake which is considered sacred.
Pushkar Lake –
The lake is located at heart of the town which is surrounded by many temples or 52 ghats where pilgrims or visitors bathe for their spiritual purification. The large numbers of pilgrims take a sacred bathe around October to November (KartikPoornima). Pushkar Lake is a sacred (Pavitra) lake for the Hindus. Devotees believe bathing in lake waters can cleanse sins or cure skin diseases.
Camel Fair – The pushkar Camel Fair which is one of the world’s largest camel fairs held in between October to November (Hindu calendar month of Kartik and ends on kartik poornima) which is an annual, week – long livestock fair. The fair is a big event for those who buy and sell camels, horses and sheep. The Fair holds lot’s of competitions just like camel races, longest moustache and other events. In this fair cultural events are also held such as folk music, dancing, puppet (katputli) shows and many more. And the visitors also enjoy with camel safaris, fairgrounds rides. And that time the event creates a colourful and unique atmosphere with a mix up of different kinds of musicians, merchants, devotees or visitors coming together.
Pushkar Markets –
Pushkar Market is very well known for their handicrafts, Rajasthani textiles, Jewellery or traditional footwear. The narrow streets are filled with silver jewellery like chunky necklaces, oxidised earrings, anklets or bangles, vibrant clothing like mirror work kurtas and skirts, bandhani sarees and the market has a variety of home decor items such as wall hangings, hand painted pottery, paintings, colourful puppets and camels and elephants motifs which is adding a touch of Rajasthani Flair to every home. The bazaar also offers a variety of musical instruments such as tabla, dholak etc.
The holy city Pushkar also has an other religious temples like Savitiri temple, Mahadev mandir Varaha mandir, Old Rangji Temple etc.
